Team USA defended its Olympic figure skating team event gold medal on Sunday after Ilia "Quad God" ushered the team to victory at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
The surprise came on Saturday, when four-time U.S. champion Ilia Malinin gave an uncharacteristically uneven performance in the men’s short program and finished in second behind Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama. The “ Quad God ” will get a chance of redemption in the men’s free skate, the final event of the team portion.
Ilia Malinin secured gold for Team USA in the final segment of the team figure skating event. But it wasn't the dominant performance fans have become used to seeing from the two-time world champion. Malinin said the Olympic stage took him by surprise.
